Spider-Man: Brand New Day becomes highest hollywood opener in India, beats Avengers Endgame

Tom Holland and Zendaya’s Spider-Man Brand New Day have made history at the Indian box office with taking the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood movie in the country.

The latest release in the MCU did incredibly well in India on its opening day with a jaw-dropping Rs 72.44 crore gross and Rs 60.60 crore nett, trackers report.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day accounted for these numbers, and is the second highest net ever achieved for any film in India, with Avengers: Endgame netting Rs 65 crore gross (Rs 53.60 crore net) in the country upon opening. It was also easily beating up Avatar: The Way of Water, which opened with Rs 48.75 crore gross (Rs 40.30 crore nett).

The movie also outdid a few big Indian movies. It saw a theatrical release before Pathaan, which is starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone and grossed Rs 67.19 crore on its first day, and Dhurandhar starring Ranveer Singh.

Following the release of Dhurandhar 2, amongst the top Indian films that opened up in recent times, only that film collected Rs 102.55 crore on its opening day.

Analysts have also pointed out that Spider-Man: Brand New Day set the record not through block books, meaning it opened even bigger.

The movie is another big hit in India for Marvel – it will further strengthen the fan base of Spider-Man in the subcontinent and signal Hollywood movies to keep the momentum going in India.
