Sky Force managed to surpass the ₹100 crore mark at the box office over the weekend, but its earnings plunged steeply on Monday. The industry tracker said the film raked in a mere ₹1.35 crore on its 11th day, which is its lowest single-day collection from the day of its release itself. Its total domestic earnings now stand at ₹101.35 crore.
The film did very well opening week and closed at ₹86.5 crore. However, the number on Friday, January 31 witnessed a drop of 45 per cent in collections. Some relief resulted on the weekend as Sky Force earned ₹5 crore on Saturday and ₹5.5 crore on Sunday. The film lost steam again on Monday despite this temporary surge.
Sky Force isn’t helped because it is now in stiff confrontation with the Deva of Shahid Kapoor. While Deva has not been a blockbuster, it has still managed to earn ₹2.5 crore on Monday, taking the film’s four-day count to ₹21.65 crore, eating into Sky Force’s profits. This will only get more competitive as Loveyapa, starring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, and Badass Ravikumar, with Himesh Reshammiya, are all set to hit the screens this Friday.
Meanwhile, Sky Force, the film produced by Maddock Films, has announced on Instagram that it was in pretty good shape both in terms of its content and commercial potential, as in the film’s first 10 days, it earned ₹153 crore globally. But this declaration has been controversial as people are claiming inflated numbers regarding box office figures. Those involved in making the trade, however, denied that such a high number was exaggerated. The makers had made the first week numbers look high, said a trade analyst, who alleged that it was about ₹40.5 crore instead of the reported ₹80 crore.
They said a large chunk of the revenue came from block booking, which was said to involve buying seats to inflate the film’s sound earnings report.
