The collaborative venture of Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan, ‘Shaitaan,’ has made a striking entry into the box office, achieving double-digit figures on its opening day. According to industry trackers, the Vikas Bahl directorial amassed ₹14.2 crore domestically. The horror thriller, released on March 8, exhibited a robust 25.70% Hindi occupancy on its debut, as reported.
Featuring Jyothika, Janki Bodiwala, and Anngad Raaj in pivotal roles, ‘Shaitaan’ is a joint production by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak. This Hindi adaptation of the Gujarati film ‘Vash,’ released in February last year, marks the reunion of R Madhavan and Jyothika on-screen after over two decades. The duo previously shared screen space in the 2001 Tamil film ‘Dumm Dumm Dumm.’ Both actors expressed their excitement about the collaboration.
In an interview with the Free Press Journal, Jyothika reflected on the experience, stating, “Working with him after all these years made me realize how much the two of us have grown as actors. Back then, we played the quintessential hero-heroine, and today, when we get cast in such character-driven roles, it makes me realize how far we have come.”
R Madhavan added his perspective, saying, “Also, 20 years ago, we were romancing each other, and in ‘Shaitaan,’ you will see her go all out to harm and kill me. So yes, we indeed have come a long way.”
Tamil superstar Suriya, Jyothika’s husband, took to social media to celebrate ‘Shaitaan.’ He shared a picture standing next to the film’s poster, expressing pride in Jyothika’s accomplishments. Suriya wrote, “To my woman! My partner, my strength! It’s a new beginning again with Shaitaan! Proud of everything you do! Lots of respect and love! Jyotika.”
‘Shaitaan’ not only marks a successful box office debut but also symbolizes the growth and versatility of its lead actors, making it a notable milestone in their cinematic journey.
