After the makers of Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story released the first poster of the movie on Sourav Ganguly’s birthday, his fans were given their first look at him as the former India captain. In addition to the first look, the producers also revealed that the eagerly awaited sports biopic will hit the theaters on May 14, 2027.

This poster depicts one of the most iconic moments in Indian cricket. Rajkummar Rao has been spotted without the shirt in the famous Lord’s balcony, waving away the Indian team jersey, while the Indian tricolour has fluttered in the background. The image is a tribute to the legendary celebration after India had won the NatWest Series final in 2002.

The memorable occasion was when India chased down England’s 326 at Lord’s on July 13, 2002. Young stars Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif played match-winning knocks to complete one of India’s greatest ODI comebacks. In a state of excitement Ganguly took off his shirt from the balcony and waved it excitedly.

The celebration was also viewed as a reaction to Andrew Flintoff, England’s allrounder, who had done something similar following the England win over India at the Wankhede stadium earlier this year. Ganguly’s classic stroke was proof of the undeniable and fearless boldness of his cricketing style as captain.

The Indian captain of the time, Ganguly was widely considered India’s best ever. It was under his guidance that many future superstars like Harbhajan Singh, MS Dhoni, Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, came up and turned into a core for the Indian cricket side.
