Mirzapur The Movie has gone to theatres after making it through three successful seasons on Prime Video. Back to the violent world of Mirzapur with the much-anticipated film released on Friday, 4th September.
The narrative of the movie is around the fight for Mirzapur’s throne as old comebacks and new-to-be threats loom. What’s interesting about this story is that it’s set against the first season of the show, and follows directly from Episode 6. This timeline enables a few characters that eventually got killed in the series to get to appear in the film.
The movie has already created a lot of buzz over advance bookings at the box-office. Mirzapur The Movie garnered advance gross of Rs 3.92 crore (excluding blocked tickets) and sold 1,38,968 tickets in 7,442 screenings, according to the trade tracker, Sacnilk.
If blocked seats are added to it, the total collections of the film’s bookings for the advance are Rs 6.19 crore, reflecting the tremendous buoyancy among the fans of the popular movie franchise.
But the producers are on a challenge to make the movie not just a favorite of the already-fanatic-loving viewers, but the ones who haven’t seen the show.
The creators said in the preview trailer that they would make sure that new fans “will not feel out of place to follow the narrative”. Harshita Gaur, who is Dimpy Pandit, told NewsNation that the film was intended to be a link between Episode 6 and 7 seasons 1.
The movie will also give more context of the characters and their lives so that the audience could link certain scenes from the movie with what happens in the later seasons, Gaur said.
As the film is currently set into the original timeline and has garnered high expectations from the general public, Mirzapur The Movie now hopes to capitalize on the hype created and achieve good turnout in theatres.
