Mumbai: Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, the sequel, has now been made available globally. The second installment’s potential to equal the first in terms of quality and popularity is eagerly anticipated by fans. Even though the first film grossed more than Rs 500 crore worldwide, the second portion of the two-part historical drama is predicted to perform well at the box office.
Early projections from industry monitor Sacnilk indicate that PS-2 can earn Rs 30 crore in India across all languages. The state of Tamil Nadu, where the original work, an epic novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, is still widely read, remains the target market for the movie. The movie had a morning show occupancy of over 44% in Tamil Nadu. Comparatively, the first movie brought in Rs 34 crore on its first day in India and Rs 80 crore globally.
But compared to the Rs 16 crore that the first movie’s advance ticket sales generated, PS-2’s advance ticket sales of Rs 7.6 crore significantly decreased. Additionally, PS-2 has already made $500,000 in the US, according to Lyca Productions, and is projected to make $1 million on its opening day. The first movie had the most significant US box office take of any Tamil movie at $5.5 million.
Because PS-2 fans have not waited long enough, trade analyst Ramesh Bala advised against anticipating a KGF: Chapter 2 or Baahubali 2: The Conclusion-type bump in collections. Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and more actors are featured in the movie. Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam are the five Indian languages in which the film is being released.
