Ram Charan and Jhanvi Kapoor-starrer sports drama, Peddi, has been running for 5 days as of today. The film stands on the verge of crossing the Rs 250 crore mark worldwide. In India alone, the film minted Rs 169.70 crore despite backlash over the objectification of Jhanvi Kapoor, who played the female lead.
On the first Monday after being released. Peddi collected a net of Rs 12.05 crore across 7,905 shows as per reports bringing India’s gross collection to Rs 201.92 crore and India’s total collections to close to Rs 170 crore.
On the global screen, the film collected Rs100 crore on day 5 taking the collection to grossly Rs 47,000 crore pushing the wordlwide collection to Rs 248.92 crore precisely.
Regionally, the Telugu industry dominated the southern film industry, minting Rs 10.40 crore. It has emerged as one of the biggest openers in the industry and is the 11th film to achieve Rs 100 crore globally on the opening day. Ram Charan’s previous film, RRR, alongside Jr NTR, made a whopping Rs 233 crore worldwide on day one.
Peddi has been under scrutiny ever since its release. Fans have raised concerns about the objectification of the lead character played by Jhanvi Kapoor. Celebrities across the film fraternity have come in support Jhanvi Kapoor has been facing trolling. In response to the trolling, director Buchi Babu Sana issued a public apology and assured to make necessary changes.
Ram Charan plays the role of an athlete in Peddi. In the same way that Sachin Tendulkar was interested in tennis before becoming the God of Cricket and MS Dhoni was a football player before becoming a cricket player. The movie is helmed by Buchi Babu Sana in partnership with Mythri Movie Makers, Sukumar Writings, IVY Entertainment, and co-producer Ishan Saksena, Venkata Satish Kilaru is producing the movie under Vriddhi Cinemas.
