There is more bad news for fans waiting for Diljit Dosanjh’s much-awaited film Punjab ’95, where the shooting of the film has been stopped mid-way again. The film was earlier slated for release on February 7, but problems with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) have again delayed the movie. This is more than a year of challenges for the movie based on the story of a great human rights activist, Jaswant Singh Khalra.

The major cause of the delay is that the movie failed to get accreditation from the CBFC, which put a halt to the shooting process for some time. Sources suggest that the board previously insisted on 120 cuts, which would definitely disrupt the release schedule. Punjab ’95 captures Khalra’s attempts to eradicate the extrajudicial execution of the Sikh young men by the Punjab Police back in the 1990s. Due to its specific, unique, and provocative topics, the film has received a great deal of attention and caused quite a lot of controversy.

Both Diljit Dosanjh and the producer Honey Trehan shared their displeasure on their Instagram account. In a warm, earnest apology, they released the statement on their Twitter account and wrote, “We are sorry and it pains us to tell you that the album Punjab ‘95 will not be out on the 7th of February due to certain conditions that arise.” Well, of course, fans of the movie were left disappointed when such news came as a shock.

In the same regard, soon before the postponement was announced, Diljit released a sensational trailer of the movie. The trailer was viewed over 300,000 times in under 20 hours, and the fans quickly got excited. However, quickly enough, it was withdrawn from YouTube in India and, for Indian viewers, was replaced by the message, ‘Sorry, this video is unavailable in your country by the uploader.’ This censorship issue has made the film a much rockier boat and has led to more discussions being carried out on the internet.

However, despite these failures, fans have remained supportive of the film and have waited in anticipation of it clearing the hurdles to come out as planned.
