Exactly two years after his world-famous debut, which shook up the international music community, Punjabi sensation Diljit Dosanjh is making a comeback to America’s famous late-night talk show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The actor-singer has finally made his intentions clear, hinting at an episode packed with excitement, cultural identity, and most importantly, some fun-filled dancing sessions!
On Monday, Diljit posted a teaser on his Instagram account, introducing himself in the most stylish way possible. The video opens with Diljit and his team opening the studio doors and teasing the camera about whether they thought they would not be back.
In a split second, the camera zooms in on Diljit’s face, who then drops a classic line that has quickly become one of the fanatics’ favorites:
“Kaha tha na ke ek baar Punjabi aa jayein toh chethi nahi jaate… Jimmy Fallon aa gaye oye!” (We told you, once a Punjabi shows up, they don’t leave in a hurry… We are here at Jimmy Fallon!)
Featured in the teaser is his latest hit song, Morni, in which Diljit performs a series of steps with utmost confidence. In addition to this video, Diljit has uploaded several clips, which have also been shared by the show’s official handle. The videos feature him teaching Jimmy Fallon the art of Bhangra, and the latter attempts to mimic his steps.
Following his previous visit, the world presence of Diljit has only grown, including his appearance at Coachella and his successful “Dil-Luminati” tour. Returning to “The Tonight Show,” Diljit solidifies himself as an ambassador of Indian culture like no other. Viewers can anticipate some humorous conversation, as well as an energetic performance. One hopes that some additional Punjabi phrases make their way into Jimmy Fallon’s repertoire.
This episode of the show will be aired sometime within the coming week.
Apart from releasing new music and planning his upcoming tour, Diljit is also busy with his acting career. He was most recently seen in Border 2. The sequel to JP Dutta’s Border was released in January this year and emerged as a box office success, collecting over ₹400 crore worldwide. Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Nidhi Dutta, JP Dutta and Krishan Kumar, the film also featured Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, alongside Mona Singh, Anya Singh, Medha Rana and Sonam Bajwa.
