Taking to his social media handle on Instagram, Diljit Dosanjh an hour after his concert in Delhi, sparked a cheeky conversation offering a glimpse into the attitude that had defined his 180 minute performance on Friday.
So sorry, Dilli ka show kar diya. Bada important tha Dilli ka show hona, kyuki bohot saare logon ka zor laga tha ki show naa ho… Hum toh kar diye hain.” (“So sorry, we went ahead and did the Delhi show. It was very important that the Delhi show happened because a lot of people were trying very hard to ensure that it did not. But we have gone ahead and done it.”)-featured his Instagram page
Beside rocking the stage, the singer gave out banging replies percieved to be a dig at CJP.
Addressing the backlash over his “I’m an artist,” remark, Dosanjh seemingly took a swipe at those who allegedly mocked his film ‘Satluj’ during the protests in Delhi, over his decision to steer clear of politics.
Addressing the audience, Diljit said, “I love all of you because I am an artist, bro. I am being quiet, so let me stay quiet. I support all of you. But don’t teach Punjabis how to fight.”
He further went on to speak about his film Satluj. ‘The film you are making fun of on stage, Jaswant Singh Khalra’s film, we fought for that film for a long time. I love all of you. If someone hates us, it’s okay. But I love all of you.”
Although he did not specify names in his comments, after the video went viral, CJP chief Abhijeet Dipke took to Instagram in response he posted,” Paaji, back in June, when we were protesting, I was a little hurt by your comment. Not because I had anything against you personally, but because I’ve always seen you as someone who speaks up for the cause, just like you said yourself. If anything, I’ve always been an admirer of yours, and that hasn’t changed. I still listen to your music. In fact, I came to your concert in Chicago this May, just before returning to India, not just for your music, but because I’ve always had immense respect for the person you are. Your courage, your authenticity, and the way you’ve taken India to the global stage while staying so true to your roots are things I’ve always admired about you. And I guess that’s why the comment hurt a little, because I’ve always held you in such high regard. But one disagreement or misunderstanding doesn’t change the respect and admiration I have for you
The singer on Friday, kicked off his tour at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the national capital on Friday, with tight security arrangements in place. Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the concert at Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, warning of traffic restrictions on Bhishma Pitamah Marg between Lodhi Road and Kotla Red Light.
Dosanjh has been insistent on carrying his identity unapologetically. The first invited on stage during the concert dressed like Maharaja Bhunpinder S8ngh of Patiala, mimicking Dosanjh’ Met Gala look. A look that became popular worldwide with these liliputs being called ‘mini Diljits’.
