The cast of Tumbbad 2 seems to be getting bigger and bigger with the most recent addition of Alia Bhatt. After weeks of speculation the Gangubai actress has joined Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sohum Shah for the sequel to the 2018 film. Alia on her social media handle shared why she decided to be a part of the film, calling Tumbbad one of the rare movies that has continued to stay with audiences’ years after its release. This is her next after the box-office underperformer Alpha.
Alia Bhatt in a media interaction shared to have been deeply impressed by the original film and was excited to become part of its universe. “Tumbbad has stayed with me ever since I first watched it. Very few films create a world that feels this original and immersive, and even fewer continue to grow in people’s imagination years after they’ve released. That’s what makes this opportunity so exciting, the SOTY debutant said.
The lead star and producer of the cult horror film Sohum Shah confirmed the news by welcoming her to the franchise with a series of pictures on social media. Taking to Instagram Soham announced Alia’s casting, sharing photos of the two against the franchise’s signature crimson backdrop. He wrote, ‘A new chapter unfolds. Welcome to #Tumbbad2, @aliaabhatt. #PralayAayega. See you at the movies. 03.12.2027.’
While makers have not yet revealed details of her character, reports suggest the role will extend much beyond cameo. According to media resources, it will be 20 days shoot with her character serving as the catalyst for a major twist that concludes Tumbbad 2. The report further claims that her storyline will continue into Tumbbad 3, where she is expected to play a much larger role alongside Sohum Shah.
Directed by Adesh Prasad, who served as the co-director and writer on the original film, Tumbbad 2 will feature Sohum Shah, Alia Bhatt and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in pivotal roles. It is set to hit the theatres on December 3, 2027.
