On Sunday night, unidentified gunmen shot to death a man wanted in several criminal cases in a targeted attack in Muzaffarpur. The victim, Govind Sharma, was reportedly facing six criminal cases including serious charges of murder.

Police officials said the crime occurred between 9:45 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. in the basement parking lot of a residential apartment complex on Amar Cinema Road called Icon Towers. The resident tenant of Sharma, who lived in the building was there during the shooting, Sharma said. He was present in the basement when armed persons opened fire and fled the scene, Sharma said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra said that they had found five cartridges and six empty bullet shells at the murder site. A team of forensics was dispatched instantly to take evidence and search for clues at the scene.

Sharma was found to have a significant criminal record, and had been named Wanted in a number of high-profile cases, such as the murder of Muzaffarpur’s former mayor, Sameer Kumar, and property dealer Ashutosh Sahu. The police are now looking into whether his criminal past was involved in the killing and they have questioned him on the matter.

A special investigation team headed by the city superintendent of police has been set up to investigate the case. Police are consulting CCTV footage from nearby premises and interviewing witnesses to determine who attacked the woman.

Two vehicles which are thought to be Sharma’s were also found parked in the apartment basement. All possibilities are being examined, including gang feuds and old criminal disputes, as police continue to seek out the attackers, officials said.
