Police uncovered a secret phone call and apparently erased messages from the two accused shortly before the murder were found to give the investigation of Ketan Agarwal’s killing another major turn.

The prime accused, 20-year old Siya Goyal, allegedly spoke to her lover and co-accused, Chetan Chaudhary, for about 34 minutes prior to Ketan Agarwal being pushed off a cliff at a fort in Pune. The Secret call was thought to be the last one made to coordinate the murder.

The growth was grown after the post mortem of the mobile phones recovered from both the accused. The recorded call, or “call detail records” (CDRs), showed that the conversation, which is being considered vital digital evidence in the case, took place, officials said.

Investigators believe the information she provided to Chaudhary on the phone helped plan the attack and that she knew exactly where to stand on the hillside and that no other tourists were in the area.

Evidence which post data appears to have been “deleted” by the accused has also been spotted in the police search of his cell however, no analysis has been undertaken which may make it easier to access. There have also been some clues from the data which post appears to have been deleted by the accused in an alleged effort to destroy evidence which is available in the police searches undertaken, however no analysis has been carried out which would make it easier to access said deleted data. The cyber wing has now begun to collaborate with forensic experts to retrieve information that was deleted.

Chats recovered are being cross-checked with the location log, as well as internet protocol (IP) logs and other digital evidence to try to determine the sequence of events around alleged murder.

The Pune Rural Police will be hoping that the digital evidence will further force the case and prove that it was planned and acted upon by a group of people. An investigation is ongoing and forensic experts are working through recovered electronic data for any other evidence.
