Jaipur: Police said on Tuesday that charges for the killing of a 22 year-old man and wounding of his older brother in a scuffle, during a meeting in the Vidyadhar Nagar area of Jaipur, have been lodged against 12 people.
The dead body was identified as Shakir who died after being treated at Sawai Man Singh Hospital. His elder brother, Qayyum, 38, also had his body was stabbed and is currently in treatment, police said.
In the night, an argument had erupted between the two groups a day earlier with them drinking alcohol, Vidyadhar Nagar SHO Sajjan Kumar stated. Later, the two groups agreed that they would meet near Mandir Mod on Monday evening to discuss the issue.
But it went from there, reportedly as the meeting turned violent due to an argument. Police stated that Qayyum used to have a money transaction issue with some youths of Bhatta Basti. He first went there alone, but, having talked about the situation, he called his younger brother Shakir.
There were about five or six individuals in the vicinity at the time, police said. They are allegedly said to have taken out knives and attacked the brothers. Qayyum had reportedly been attacked as well, being stabbed in the thigh while Shakir was stabbed in the thigh.
Shakir was rushed to SMS Hospital in critical condition as a result of heavy bleeding. He has nevertheless succumbed to his injuries after receiving treatment.
Police have arrested some youths for questioning and instituted teams to find the main accused. Authorities are looking into the situation and the events leading up to the killing.
An investigation is continuing and police are interrogating the detainees, in order to know the sequence of events and identify all the people who are alleged to have participated in the attack.
