The state of Bihar is getting ready to establish a new administration following the overwhelming majority that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) gained in the assembly elections in 2025. The NDA was re-elected comfortably, getting 220 tickets out of 243 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) became the biggest party with 89 seats and closely followed by its long time ally, Janata Dal (United) who got 85 seats. With the support of 19 seats, the entire alliance continued to be strengthened by the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) which is headed by Chirag Paswan.
The discussions in the NDA have now turned into a government formation discussion after a firm directive that is in their favour. The leaders of the alliance believe that the process of formation is going to be finished in the upcoming two to three days. Much focus is on how the ministerial portfolios are distributed and whether the choice of who will occupy the leadership position will be made which are likely to influence the political course of the state over the next five years.
Conversely, the opposition was a greatest loser. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) could only get 25 seats and its Mahagathbandhan partner, the Congress, got a paltry six, which gave the alliance a total of 35 seats. This is one of their lowest performances in the past few years.
To make the situation worse in RJD, Rohini Acharya, the daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav and sister of Tejashwi Yadav, declared leaving politics and breaking away of her relation with her family. She made serious allegations against close aides of Tejashwi Yadav accusing the aides of maltreatment. The following day Rohini confessed to her departure to Mumbai because her mother-in-law is so much concerned with her safety. Rohini, who has been married to a Singapore-based software engineer, has created another crisis to the already struggling RJD.
