The visit on Tuesday by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bhutan reinforced the effort by India to deepen the level of connectivity, border infrastructure, and economic collaboration, with the Himalayan country. At a ceremony in Thimphu, Thamuzi honored the 70 th birth anniversary of Bhutan former king, Jigme Singye Wangchuk by stating that the king made great contribution to developing democracy, peace and friendship between India and Bhutan.

Monitored is the ability of connectivity to change India: Modi declared that Bhutan will connect Gelephu and Samtse cities to its railroad network. According to him, the project will provide the Bhutanese farmers and industries improved access to the large Indian market and enhance the trade of the region. Having invested in rail and road development, India is also helping to improve border infrastructure and aiding the Bhutanese Gelephu Mindfulness City that is yet to be built, an economic hub planned by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk. India will shortly have an immigration checkpoint at Gelephu to make travel and investment easier.

Modi highlighted the fact that India had contributed 10,000 crore towards the current five year development plan that Bhutan has, and this is targeted towards financing essential areas like roads, agriculture, finance and healthcare. He observed that the development of India and Bhutan is very much intertwined and that the relationship is that of mutual prosperity and trust.

Another project opened by the Prime Minister was a 1,020 MW hydropower station, which will increase the hydropower generation of Bhutan by around 40 percent. He just declared that the construction of another long-term hydropower project will be resumed and that the cooperation between the two countries will be extended to solar energy.

Modi praised Bhutan as the first carbon-negative nation in the world, which is due to its clean energy policies. He also talked about the expansion of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Bhutan, the partnership with the youth in the development of satellites, and the expansion of collaboration in the fields of education, culture, sport, and technology.

In turn, to honors the deceased king, Modi celebrated his philosophy of Gross National Happiness that, in his words, reevaluated the world perception of what actual development and well-being meant.
