World Champions, the Indian women’s cricket team, World Cup winners Amanjot Kaur and Harleen Kaur, were given a grand welcome at Chandigarh Airport. Organized by the Punjab government at Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh International Airport, the ceremony was attended by government officials Harpal Cheema, MP Meet Hayer, ministers, fans, and family members.
Amanjot Kaur and Harleen Deol played key roles in India’s first ODI World Cup trophy in the World Cup final. Upon landing, Amanjot Kaur and Harleen Deol were honored with garlands of flowers. The atmosphere at the airport was electric, with families, fans, and leaders of the state’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) greeting them with sweets, flowers, and the vibrant beats of the dhol.
The celebrations came just days after the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s team created history by clinching its first-ever 50-over World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann delivered a welcome message via video conferencing, saying, “These daughters of Punjab are the pride of our state.” Harampreet Kaur, who is the captain, will return home after a week.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and AAP MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer were among the prominent leaders present to welcome the champions. The two players were honoured with shawls, while fans cheered and showered them with affection.
Punjab government officials, local fans, and family were present at the event. Amanjot Kaur said the welcome home was priceless. She dedicated this victory to the entire nation. Harleen said winning the World Cup was a dream. This is a victory for the daughters of Punjab.
