This process continued for the next 3 to 4 hours. During this, the wind speed was 90-100 kmph, which reached 110 kmph. Heavy rains are occurring in many districts of Andhra Pradesh. Till now, 3 people have been reported dead. An elderly woman died after a tree fell on her house in Konaseema. In another incident, 2 other people were injured.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that severe cyclonic storm “Montha” made landfall near Kakinada on Tuesday night. The landfall process has begun and will continue for the next 3-4 hours. Wind speeds during this period were 90-100 km/h, with gusts up to 110 km/h. According to the Meteorological Department, the storm’s impact may cause rainfall in Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand for the next three days.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Montha, after passing through Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, reached Gopalpur Beach in Ganjam, Odisha on Wednesday morning. High waves are rising in the sea of Ganjam and winds are blowing at a speed of 80-100 kmph. Its effect is visible in 8 districts of Odisha (South) – Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur. According to the state government, 11 thousand people have been evacuated from these districts. Preparations are underway to evacuate 30 thousand people. 30 teams of ODRF and 5 teams of NDRF have been deployed.
Approximately 76,000 people have been evacuated to relief camps in anticipation of the storm’s impact, with the government setting up 219 relief camps in various locations.
43,000 hectares of crops in Andhra Pradesh submerged
Cyclone Montha submerged over 43,000 hectares of crops in Andhra Pradesh, affecting over 83,000 farmers. Damage was reported in a total of 292 mandals and 1,712 villages. Paddy and cotton crops suffered the most damage, accounting for 80% of the total damaged area, according to reports. Around 31,267 hectares of paddy and 15,680 hectares of cotton were destroyed in the incessant rains and floods.
