On Tuesday, parts of Delhi were anticipated to experience artificial rainfall, as the Delhi government held the first cloud-seeding trial with IIT-Kanpur to address the deteriorating air quality in the city. The trial aimed to generate artificial rain around 7 PM utilizing a modified Cessna plane from Kanpur.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that in a half-hour operation, the plane discharged eight fire flares into the clouds over parts of Burari, the northbound Karol Bagh area, and Mayur Vihar, prior to landing at the Meerut Airfield. The plane returned to its home base at Kanpur, the state’s trial base, after the flight.
Sirsa confirmed that this was the first trial out of five that would occur over the next several days, with the primary focus being the region in the northeast areas of Delhi. The trials are part of the government’s overall strategy to tackle the worrying levels of pollution and help improve air quality in the national capital. Sirsa stated that further trials would be scheduled but would be dependent on good weather and favorable rain clouds.
