Three Assamese society members in Singapore, who were said to be with singer Zubeen Garg in his last moments, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that was investigating the death of the singer. On Wednesday, the Special Director General of Police of Assam, Munna Prasad Gupta, confirmed that Sushmita Goswami, Pratim Bhuyan, and Debojyoti Hazarika had been reporting to the CID office in Assam and they are in the process of interrogation.

Among the 11 people who had been summoned by the SIT, 10 have already responded and turned up to be questioned. Wajed Ahmed, a citizen of Singapore, is the only individual who has yet to report. Gupta said that Ahmed is also willing to cooperate and that he should appear soon. The other summoned personalities of Singapore are all Indians. Previously, Rupkamal Kalita was the only person to present before the SIT on October 7, a day after the initial deadline lapsed, which led to a new summons for the other people.

In response to the spreading fake news, Gupta explained that a supposed post-mortem report of Zubeen Garg published on social media was not genuine and had no signature of a doctor. He emphasised that the current post-mortem report in the custody of SIT is valid. The police are enquiring that the falsified report was intentionally leaked to mislead the masses, as well as to distract the current investigation. Gupta urged the citizens not to share fake news, and spreading misleading information on social media would be a punishable offence.

In the meantime, the Singapore authorities have approached the Indian High Commission to enquire details of the Assam police officials and their agenda in Singapore with regard to the investigation. The SIT is still investigating to determine all events that led to the death of Zubeen Garg and is liaising with the international community to have the case well investigated.
