Earthquake in the Philippines: Two people have reportedly been killed in the Philippines after an earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale hit the Mindanao region on Friday. A powerful earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale struck the southern Philippines on Friday. A tsunami warning has been issued following the quake. Authorities have urged people living in coastal areas to evacuate immediately. The epicenter was located approximately 10 kilometers below ground. Since it struck near the coast, a strong sea movement is expected, which could lead to a tsunami.

Phivolcs has warned that tsunami waves could reach the sea within the next two hours, and people have been advised to move to higher and safer places. The agency has also warned of possible aftershocks and damage. According to the US Tsunami Warning System, a life-threatening tsunami is possible within a radius of 300 kilometers from the epicenter. There have been no immediate reports of major damage or casualties.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake had a depth of approximately 62 kilometres (38.5 miles). The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that aftershocks are likely following the earthquake. Phivolcs estimated that the first tsunami waves could reach the coast between 09:43:54 and 11:43:54 (PST) on October 10, 2025, and that these waves could continue for several hours.

Local authorities have advised people living in coastal areas to immediately move to higher and safer ground. Emergency services have been alerted, and citizens have been urged to follow government instructions.
