New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Rajiv Verma has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi. A government order issued on Sunday stated that Verma will take charge on October 1st. The current Chief Secretary, Dharmendra, is retiring on September 30th. After his retirement, Rajiv Verma will take over the reins of the Delhi administration.

The Home Ministry issued an official order on Sunday evening appointing Rajiv Verma, a 1992-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi. According to the order, Verma has been transferred from Chandigarh to Delhi. He will assume the post of Chief Secretary of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) from October 1, 2025, or the date he assumes charge. Current Chief Secretary Dharmendra is retiring on September 30, after which Verma will take over the responsibility.

Who is Rajiv Verma?

Rajiv Verma is a 1992 batch AGMUT cadre officer. Prior to his posting in Delhi, he served as the Chief Secretary of Chandigarh from January 29, 2024. Prior to that, he served as Advisor to the Administrator and Additional Secretary in the Union Territory of Chandigarh from 2022 to 2024. Verma also has a notable educational background. He holds an M.Tech degree from IIT. A native of Uttar Pradesh, Verma previously served as the Finance and Revenue Secretary in the Delhi government from 2018 to 2022.

During his nearly 30-year administrative career, Verma has held key positions in the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Energy, and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India. He holds an MTech degree from IIT and is originally from Uttar Pradesh. He also has extensive experience in the Delhi government. From 2018 to 2022, he served as the Finance and Revenue Secretary. He has also held Secretary and Additional Secretary-level positions in other departments, including the Transport Department of Delhi.
