Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, 62, the alleged godman who was arrested on charges of mass molestation of female students, organised a whole network of falsification and financial fraud, as well as counterfeit diplomatic papers and international connections. Saraswati, the former chairman of Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management Research in Vasant Kunj, had been dodging the law since early August, after a formal complaint was made by the Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, which owns the college.
The Molestation FIR that was filed on August 5 gives a chilling description of his so-called crimes. The complaint was filed by a 21-year-old student, and in her statement, she mentions 32 other women who claimed they were harassed repeatedly. His fraudulent activities were extensive, as the religious institution had already cut him off after learning of the so-called financial misconduct of crores of rupees.
It is not the first time that Saraswati is in trouble with the law. He has a history of five cases in the past, including molestation, as early as 2016. There was also evidence of forgery and cheating, which exposed a chain of criminal activities over a number of years.
To make his intensive pretence complete, Saraswati had had nine cars painted with counterfeit diplomatic number plates with UN stencilled, saying he was a Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations. Even visiting cards that he claimed to be a Special Envoy of India, as well as a member of the Joint Commission of BRICS countries, gave him a perception of international legitimacy. The authorities observed similarities to the fake embassy incident in Ghaziabad in 2022, when a man impersonated a non-existent state and provided a counterfeit certificate to mislead the population with the help of fake documents.
According to the police sources, Saraswati was a great manipulator who used his religious and educational power to commit crimes and betray people.
