JAMMU: A special court in Jammu on Monday granted the National Investigation Agency (NIA) an additional 10 days of remand for two individuals, Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, who are accused of harboring Pakistani terrorists involved in the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in April. This extension allows the NIA further time to delve into the conspiracy and gather more evidence in the high-profile case.
The two accused were produced before the Special NIA Court following the expiration of their previous 10-day remand. Officials stated that the extension was deemed necessary to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into their alleged role in providing shelter and logistical support to the perpetrators of the attack.
Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar were initially apprehended on June 22 and subsequently presented before a local court in Jammu the following day. That court had granted the NIA a five-day remand before the case was transferred to the special court for further proceedings.
According to the NIA, the interrogation of the two accused has already yielded significant breakthroughs. They reportedly disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists who carried out the brutal attack and confirmed that these individuals were Pakistani nationals with affiliations to the banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, primarily targeted tourists and has drawn widespread condemnation both domestically and internationally. The ongoing investigation aims to unearth the full extent of the terror network and bring all those involved to justice.
