In Delhi too, the southwest monsoon was officially declared a day ago in various parts of the country, including the national capital. On Sunday, a cool, breezy morning greeted people of the city on Monday. The rainfall came as more than welcome respite to the blazing heat that had settled on the city over several weeks. IMD has issued a yellow alert on Monday, June 30 and warns of the moderate rains and cloudy conditions most of the day. The highest degree should also be reached up to 32 °C.
IMD said that on Sunday, the minimum temperature in Delhi was registered at 26.8 °C, nearly one degree below the seasonal average. This will further fall to 24 degrees Celsius on Monday, which will be a cool day by the standards of the city during summer.
The commencement of the monsoon, which is also early this time, has made Delhiites feel very happy, and upon this, several of them used social media to express their happiness and excitement by posting pictures and videos of the streets drenched by rain, and of grey skies over Delhi. The fair weather gave a welcome change after many days of hot, dry weather.
At a bigger picture, on June 29, IMD stated that the entire country is under the grip of the monsoons nine days earlier than the normal timing. The southwest monsoon has progressed even more into the rest of the states in Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and the complete areas of Delhi today. Therefore, it updated the whole country on June 29, as opposed to the customary July 8, said an official statement.
In India, so far this June has been 8 per cent above normal rainfall. This follows the earlier prediction of the IMD, which showed that good monsoon rainfall would be experienced in 2025, registering the second consecutive year of the rain season being successful.
