Visakhapatnam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday underscored the profound global impact of yoga, stating that it has become an integral part of life for millions worldwide. Leading the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations from Visakhapatnam, PM Modi highlighted how yoga has transcended geographical boundaries, evolving into a powerful global movement for health, peace, and harmony.
“Yoga is for everyone, beyond boundaries, backgrounds, age or ability,” the Prime Minister affirmed at the mega event, which saw massive participation along a 26-kilometre stretch from Ramakrishna Beach. He emphasized that yoga is not merely a set of exercises but “a way of life” that fosters unity between mind and body, thought and action, and harmony between humans and nature.
This year’s International Yoga Day is celebrated under the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” a message that resonates deeply with India’s vision for a healthier and more sustainable future. PM Modi called for this Yoga Day to mark the beginning of “Yoga for Humanity 2.0,” where inner peace can become a cornerstone of global policy.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s efforts to strengthen the science of yoga through modern research, with major medical institutions engaged in studies to integrate its benefits into contemporary healthcare systems. He expressed pride in seeing yoga embraced by diverse groups, from Divyang friends studying Yoga Shastras in Braille to scientists practicing yoga in space.
First proposed by India at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, the International Day of Yoga has garnered widespread support, with over 175 countries co-sponsoring the resolution. This global embrace, PM Modi noted, is a testament to yoga’s universal appeal and its capacity to bring about a holistic approach to well-being in a world often marked by tension and instability.
