New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated 33 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras simultaneously at Tis Hazari and the Secretariat complex in Delhi. Medicines, pathology tests and yoga facilities will be provided free of cost to the citizens in these state-of-the-art clinics.
On this occasion, she stated that this initiative is a crucial step towards enhancing health services in Delhi under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ayushman Bharat Mission’. The Chief Minister said that keeping in mind the goal of a healthy and empowered Delhi, the government is going to set up 1139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in the capital, which will include 15 Arogya Mandirs in each assembly constituency.
These centres will have 12 types of services, including special facilities for pregnant women and the elderly, in-house labs, mental health services and testing and treatment of serious diseases like TB, and all these services will be provided free of cost. The chief minister also said that the previous government’s ‘mohalla clinic’ scheme had become a hub of corruption.
She alleged that these clinics lacked trained staff, large-scale scams were committed by outsourcing testing, and in many places these clinics became centers of anti-social activities. Rekha Gupta said that the central government had given a health grant of Rs 2400 crore to Delhi, but the previous government did not spend it. Her government is now using this amount to expand health services. Regarding Jan Aushadhi Kendras, the Chief Minister said that these centers will provide 50 to 80 percent cheaper medicines and surgical equipment. The Delhi government has set up these centers in 17 hospitals in the first phase and further they will be opened in all government hospitals. Rekha Gupta clarified that wherever Arogya Mandirs are opened, Mohalla clinics will be closed, so that the public can get more comprehensive and well-organized health services.
