The Centre and Delhi governments are working together on a war footing to clean the Yamuna. This is the reason why the Delhi government has now decided to conduct a drone survey of 22 big drains falling into the river to revive the Yamuna. According to the information, 360 small drains will also be re-verified by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). 67 places have been decided to monitor pollution in Yamuna, where the pollution level will be measured. By July 2025, these 67 places will be surveyed and the report will be submitted to the Delhi Jal Board.
Several important decisions were made at the Union Home Ministry meeting regarding the revival of the Yamuna, which the Delhi government has begun implementing rapidly. According to official sources, 22 big and 360 small drains in Delhi fall into the Yamuna. Out of these, drone survey of the Najafgarh and Shahdara drain will be done by the National Clean Ganga Mission by August and the report will be submitted to the Delhi Jal Board. Survey of the remaining 20 big drains will be done by the Delhi Jal Board.
The Central Pollution Control Board has identified 46, and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee has identified 21 such places where pollution measuring devices have been installed. The Jal Board will also identify places for regular checking of pollution quality and this work will be done at fixed intervals every year.
Also, the number of sub-drains joining these drains will also be determined and verified. The number of all 22 major drains will be re-verified through the Central Pollution Control Board.
