Chandigarh: Punjab Government under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Mann has released an amount of Rs 16.36 crore to 3207 beneficiaries of backward classes and economically weaker sections during the current financial year 2025-26 under the Ashirvad Scheme.
Giving more information in this regard, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under the Ashirwad Scheme for Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections, a total of 3207 applications of beneficiaries belonging to Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections of districts Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Mansa, Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Pathankot, S.A.S. Nagar, Sangrur, Malerkotla and Tarn Taran were received on the Ashirwad portal during the current year.
An amount of Rs 16.36 crore has been released to cover these 3207 beneficiaries. The Social Justice Minister informed that from this amount, financial benefits have been given to 94 beneficiaries of district Barnala, 219 of Bathinda, 80 of Faridkot, 41 of Fatehgarh Sahib, 137 of Fazilka, 135 of Gurdaspur, 602 of Hoshiarpur, 123 of Jalandhar, 27 of Kapurthala. Similarly, 254 beneficiaries of district Mansa, 64 of Moga, 43 of Sri Muktsar Sahib, 616 of Patiala, 127 of Pathankot, 200 of S.A.S. Nagar, 288 of Sangrur, 16 of Malerkotla and 141 beneficiaries of district Tarn Taran have also been given benefits.
Dr. Baljeet Kaur informed that under the Ashirvad Scheme, the state government provides financial assistance of Rs. 51,000 for the marriage of girls belonging to low-income families in the state. The Cabinet Minister informed that to avail the benefits of the Ashirvad Scheme, the applicant should be a permanent citizen of Punjab state, his family should be below the poverty line, the applicant should belong to Scheduled Caste, Backward Classes and other economically weaker families and the annual income of the family from all sources should be less than Rs. 32,790, two daughters of such families are eligible to avail the benefits of this scheme.
