Eid al-Adha 2025: The Delhi government has issued a strict advisory regarding Bakrid (Eid-ul-Azha) 2025. According to the advisory issued by the government, the sacrifice of cows, calves, camels and other prohibited animals has been banned on Bakrid. Apart from this, there is a complete ban on sacrificing in public places like road, street or any open place. It also said that strict action will be taken against those who violate the advisory.

The government has clarified that Qurbani can be done only at authorized and designated places. Under this guideline, posting photos or videos of Qurbani on social media will also be completely prohibited, so that any kind of inflammatory or sentiment-hurting material is not spread.

Maulana Shaban Bukhari, son of Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari of Delhi Jama Masjid, has also made a special appeal to the Muslims. Maulana Shaban Bukhari said, “Eid ul Azha is a day of happiness. I request people to sacrifice only in closed places. Follow the guidelines of the government. Avoid sacrificing on roads, markets and open places.”

One of the major festivals of Islam, ‘Bakrid’ is also called ‘Eid of Qurbani’. This festival is celebrated in memory of the test of Hazrat Ibrahim when he had decided to sacrifice his son on the orders of Allah, but then at the last moment Allah stopped him from sacrificing his son and ordered him to sacrifice an animal. Since then, people of Islam celebrate ‘Bakrid’ on the 10th of Zil-Hijja, the last month of the Islamic calendar. On this day, Muslim devotees offer prayers and sacrifice animals which are not prohibited under Indian laws and distribute meat among the needy.

Complete ban on sacrifice of camel and cow

The advisory specifically states that camel is not considered a food animal, hence its slaughter is illegal. At the same time, according to the Delhi Agricultural Animal Protection Act, 1994, there is already a complete ban on cow slaughter in Delhi.

A copy of this advisory has been sent to District Magistrates (DM), Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP), Municipal Corporation Commissioners (MCD) and other concerned departments to ensure strict compliance of the laws during Bakrid.

The government has appealed to the common citizens to follow this order completely and if they see any violation of the rules, they should immediately inform the administration. The government has taken this step with the aim of ensuring public health, hygiene and animal welfare while respecting religious beliefs.
