The Delhi government, on Friday, May 23, 2025, issued a comprehensive advisory on Covid-19, urging hospitals across the national capital to ensure robust preparedness in terms of beds, oxygen, medicines, and vaccines. This proactive measure comes amid a gradual uptick in Covid-19 cases in several Indian states, including Mumbai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, and a resurgence of infections in parts of Asia like Hong Kong and Singapore.

While the overall case numbers in Delhi remain relatively low, with 23 cases reported as of Thursday, the government is taking no chances. The advisory emphasizes the critical need for hospitals to have all essential equipment, such as ventilators, Bi-PAP machines, oxygen concentrators, and PSA plants, in fully functional condition. Furthermore, it mandates that all positive Covid-19 samples be sent for genome sequencing to Lok Nayak Hospital, a crucial step for monitoring potential new variants and understanding the evolving nature of the virus.

Daily reporting of all relevant parameters on the Delhi State Health Data Management Portal has also been stressed to ensure transparent and timely data sharing. Health authorities are also encouraging the public, especially vulnerable groups like the elderly, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions, to resume basic precautions such as mask-wearing in enclosed spaces and frequent handwashing. Doctors are also recommending influenza vaccination to reduce the risk and severity of co-infections.

Delhi’s Health Minister, Pankaj Kumar Singh, assured the public that the government is fully prepared to handle any situation, stating that there is no need to panic. The advisory reflects a cautious and vigilant approach, aiming to prevent a larger surge and protect public health by ensuring that the healthcare infrastructure is ready to respond effectively.
