India-Pakistan Ceasefire: Today is the last day of India-Pakistan ceasefire. In the talks held on 14 May, there was an agreement to extend the ceasefire till 18 May. In such a situation, people are wondering whether the border conflict between the two countries can start again after the ceasefire ends?
Indian Army on Sunday said that the ceasefire understanding with Pakistan remains in place and that there is no expiry date to the “continuation of a break in hostilities”. “No DGMO talks are scheduled today. As far as the continuation of a break in hostilities as decided in the DGMOs interaction of 12th May is concerned, there is no expiry date to it,” the Indian Army said.
Today is the last day of the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India after the Pahalgam attack and the retaliatory action on 9 terrorist hideouts. In the talks of 14 May, it was agreed to extend the ceasefire till 18 May. According to sources, there may be talks between DGMO once again on 19 May, only after which it will be clear whether the ceasefire will continue between the two countries or not. However, nothing has been decided about the meeting.
Pakistan’s Deputy PM Ishaq Dar had said during an interview that if the long-standing Indus Water Treaty dispute between India and Pakistan is not resolved, then the ceasefire agreement could be in danger. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, who harbours terrorism, called India’s decision to suspend the 1960 Indus Water Treaty a provocation and said that if this issue is not resolved, it can be considered an Act of War.
Pakistan has been exposed on the global level on the issue of terrorism, and hence, there is pressure on its image. Taking a strategic step, it also suddenly announced a ceasefire. This decision also indicates that Pakistan wants to avoid another open war for the time being. Especially at such a time when its internal situation also remains unstable.
