BHUJ: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit the Bhuj airbase in Gujarat on Friday, a day after concluding his security review in Jammu and Kashmir. The visit underscores the government’s continued focus on bolstering security along India’s sensitive borders.
Gujarat, which shares a 508-kilometre-long border with Pakistan, was one of the states that Pakistan targeted using drones during the four-day military conflict. Bhuj was reportedly attacked using drones by Pakistan. However, the Indian armed forces successfully neutralised the threat.
Singh’s itinerary includes a comprehensive assessment of the Bhuj airbase’s operational readiness and infrastructure. The airbase, strategically located near the India-Pakistan border, plays a crucial role in maintaining aerial surveillance and defense capabilities in the region. Officials indicate that the minister will be briefed on the base’s preparedness to respond to potential security threats.
Following the airbase visit, Singh is expected to travel to the India-Pakistan border area within Gujarat. This leg of the visit will provide him with firsthand insight into the ground situation and the challenges faced by security forces deployed along the frontier. The minister will likely interact with personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF) and other agencies responsible for border management.
This visit comes at a time of heightened regional geopolitical tensions, making the strengthening of border security a top priority for the Indian government. The focus shift from Srinagar to Bhuj highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring robust defense mechanisms across all its borders.
The timing of the visit, immediately after his J&K tour, highlights the importance placed on all the borders of India. The minister’s visit aims to bolster the morale of the security forces and reinforce the government’s resolve to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity. He is expected to discuss the logistical challenges and the modernisation of the forces with the local commanders.
