In a dramatic turn of events, a 36-year-old Indian Air Force (IAF) jawan from Rajasthan, Surendra Kumar, was killed in an Airstrike on an Indian Air base, the Udhampur airbase, by Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday. Surendra, an IAF assistant medical sergeant was born in Mandawa in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district.
According to Jhunjhunu District Collector Ramavatar Meena, who confirmed the loss, “Surendra Kumar Moga was posted at the 39th Wing of the Udhampur airbase. He was killed in a Saturday morning Pakistani strike. On receiving the report, the Superintendent of Police, Sharad Chaudhary and myself personally went to his family to inform them.”
Surendra was a member of the armed forces for more than 14 years, previously working at Lucknow, where he was then transferred to Udhampur two months ago. Saying he was ‘JOD’ aware about what ails this nation, his cousin Kuldeep Kumar Moga, a former soldier in the Indian army, revealed that during his recent housewarming in April, he had built a new home in Jhunjhunu. He came back on duty on the 20th of April with his wife Seema (34).
Seema, who was normally staying with him at his posting place, had gone back to her native village, Balaria, 10 days ago, after her grandfather had died. She was planning to return to Udhampur early. But the story of the sudden death of her husband devastated her. She allegedly fainted and was rushed to Nawalgarh Government Hospital, where she was treated and discharged by evening.
Surendra has two little children, Vartika (11) and Daksh (7), being educated locally at present. His family paid deep lamentations and said, “We believe the Indian government will ensure his sacrifice is avenged. Pakistan will face consequences.”
