On Saturday, the Ministry of Defence revealed that Pakistan has persistently waged cross-border aggression by attacking civilian and religious sites in Jammu, including the famous Shambhu Temple. According to a statement issued, the ministry said, “Pakistan continued its hostilities on 10 May 2025 by targeting places of worship such as the famous Shambhu Temple and residential areas in Jammu. Days of preliminary attacks came to a head on Wednesday with multiple armed drones that were supposed to have been launched overnight from across the border, representing a major threat to civilians and sacred places.”

The attacks have seen the Indian Armed Forces put on high alert. “The Indian Armed Forces are alert and pledge to protect the national sovereignty”, the ministry added, pointing out their readiness to counter possible threats.

A sad climax ensued as four people, a senior administrative officer among them, died in Pakistani shelling in Rajouri district in the case of a LoC. This is the third consecutive day of drone and shelling attacks from Pakistan across India’s northern frontier. Residents in Jammu and surrounding towns were shaken from their sleep at about 4.15 am on Saturday morning as air raid sirens and a string of noisy blasts punctuated the temporary silence that had set in after earlier attacks.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had earlier condemned the deliberate targeting of religious institutions in Pakistan. “A shell fired from Pakistan on to the Line of Control during heavy shelling in the early morning of 7th May landed just behind the Christ School run by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate congregation in Poonch,” said Misri. He emphasized that there has been a pattern of attacks that appears intentional to create communal tensions and destabilize peace in the area.

The government has denounced these provocations and assured the nation that all possible measures have been taken to guarantee the well-being and security of its citizens as well as the integrity of the nation’s borders.
