Pakistan fired a salvo of missiles Fatah-2 at India’s National Capital Region (NCR) in a highly provocative and escalatory move, as top government sources opined through a news agency. The missile, targeted at Delhi, was intercepted successfully over Sirsa in Haryana by India’s air defences, which spared Delhi from any damage or casualties. This is an evil development of hostilities, which has Pakistan explicitly attacking a heavily populated and politically sensitive region of India.
The Fatah-2 missile is a guided ballistic missile, proud of its accuracy and long distance range. Application in this scenario is an alarming escalation of the military positioning of Pakistan. Defence analysts speculate that this may be an effort to create a bigger war or to show strategic capabilities in the escalation of relations between the two nations.
Pakistan is said to have launched a coordinated series of drone attacks targeting as many as 26 targets on Indian soil after the missile launch over the next few hours. The spread of the attacks covered a wide geographical area — from Jammu and Kashmir in the north region to Gujarat in the west region which meant that the planning for the attack was done extensively and simultaneously from multiple fronts, and the oversight aim was to catch off guard the Indian defence force and create panic among the Indian populace.
India has reacted decisively. Three important Pakistan air bases were attacked and hit by Indian forces in a major counter-offensive exercise. Nur Khan Airbase, Murid Airbase & RAFiqui Airbase. Such facilities are considered some of Pakistan’s air force strategic facilities, and the strikes are likely to have dealt a Big blow to operations.
Military and political observers think that unless diplomatic contacts are opened up timely manner, the current escalation may turn into a bigger conflict. The Indian government had called in high-level meetings with the top defence and intelligence officials to review the situation at hand and determine the next course of action.
The international community has been worried and has called upon nuclear-armed neighbours to exercise restraint and talk to each other to reduce tensions.
