The brutal terrorist attack on Pahalgam, which murdered 26 tourists including mostly tourists, forced Indian security forces to boost their operations throughout Jammu and Kashmir. The Romeo Force of the Indian Army, supported by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, uncovered an alleged terrorist facility in Surankote, which exists in Poonch district.
Security teams conducting the operation succeeded in obtaining a major shipment of weapons and explosive materials. The seized items included five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) hidden within steel buckets and tiffin boxes alongside two wireless radio sets and five packets of urea and a five-litre gas cylinder and a pair of binoculars and three woolen caps and three blankets, as well as several trousers and various cooking utensils. Security forces consider this breakthrough a significant achievement during counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
Security forces continue their vigilant state due to the terror attack at Pahalgam from April 22, as the bust occurs during this critical period. Indian authorities have initiated broad-ranging investigations to find terrorists who escaped after shooting randomly at vacationing nationals at the crime scene.
A meeting took place the day before the Poonch raid, which was led by Inspector General of Police VK Birdi. The meeting assembled senior officials representing the military forces, together with officers from J&K Police and intelligence agencies and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). During the session, various agencies emphasized their need to counter terrorist threats, followed by enhanced collaboration.
The Indian government took diplomatic actions against Pakistan, which included the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and multiple port and aviation restrictions. At the same time, they banned visa services and prohibited Pakistani ships from Indian waters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi promises to track down all parties responsible for the Pahalgam attack for legal prosecution.
