Two months into 2025 and Bollywood is already experiencing jitters, with signs that the year could turn out even worse than 2024. Despite a handful of films hitting the screens, the only real respite for the industry has come from director Laxman Utekar’s historical actioner Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in the lead roles. Nonetheless, based on its current figures, Chhaava also shows the promise of outperforming director Amar Kaushik’s Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, which was the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024.

On Monday, which marked its 25th day in theatres, Chhaava recorded an India nett collection of Rs 6.25 crore, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, taking its domestic total to Rs 526.05 crore. While the Hindi version contributed Rs 5 crore to the day’s overall figure, the Telugu iteration raked in Rs 1.25 crore. During the day, the film also crossed the Rs 700 crore mark worldwide, becoming the ninth-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.

Also featuring Diana Penty, Ashutosh Rana, Vineet Kumar Singh and Divya Dutta in the key supporting roles, Chhaava is said to be adapted from Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel Chhava. To note, the movie also marks Vicky’s first collaboration with Rashmika. From Vicky’s performance as Sambhaji Maharaj to Akshaye’s unrecognisable look as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, Chhaava has been creating waves for its stellar cast, performances and of course the box office. And as the movie is in the fourth week, Chhaava is going slow and steady.
