Wednesday morning saw violence in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh following the clash between two groups over the installation of flags and the use of loudspeakers during Maha Shivratri celebrations. Police reports indicate that the incident injured several people and that several two-wheelers were set ablaze. It resulted in a tense area.

The incident was confirmed by Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay, who assured us that adequate security forces were present to maintain law and order. “A scuffle and stone pelting happened this morning at the Ichak area in the Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand over the use of a sound system,” Sahay said. “Senior officers are camping at the site, and adequate forces have been deployed there. Currently, everything is calm and under control.”

He said eyewitnesses reported that the offense began when one group objected to the use of loudspeakers in worship, and the two groups erupted in a fight that rapidly degenerated. In the chaos, vehicles parked nearby were torched, and burned stones were pelted. Before security forces intervened, however, the situation spiraled out of control and left the local residents fearing for their lives.

The authorities are figuring out the cause of the incident, and they are analyzing the factors that triggered the violence. Citizens should also be calm and not believe in rumors that might unleash a new wave of tension, police urged them.

The incident, however, came during religious festivals being celebrated nationwide. The situation is closely monitored by officials so as to prevent further unrest, and more actions may be taken to keep peace in the region.
