Prayagraj: A fire broke out at a camp in Mahakumbh Nagar in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh today on Friday. Fire officials told the media that the incident took place at Sector 18, Shankaracharya Marg in the Mahakumbh Mela area. Fire engines reached the spot to extinguish the fire.
Panic spread over the surrounding akhadas as dense clouds of smoke engulfed the fair area. Inspector Yogesh Chaturvedi of Khak Chowk police station said, “A fire broke out at a camp near Tulsi Chauraha on Old GT Road. However, firefighters have managed to bring the blaze largely under control.” According to him, representatives from the fire department have come to supervise the operation.
Similar circumstances occurred last month when a large fire caused by a cylinder blow at the Maha Kumbh Mela destroyed 18 tents in Sector 19 and injured one person. According to the officials, the fire was brought under control in an hour by 15 fire tenders.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, who was in Prayagraj to look at the arrangements for Mauni Amavasya, also visited the location and gave the go-ahead for authorities to take action to prevent a repeat of the disaster.
According to a statement, while fleeing from the spot, the man, identified as Jaspreet, got injured in his leg, became unconscious, and was taken to the Maha Kumbh Mela Hospital. It stated that Jaspreet was taken to Swaruprani Medical College in Prayagraj after obtaining first aid. It further claimed that the injured people’s condition was not in danger.
Earlier, 15 fire engines were called into action to put out the fire, which had consumed 18 tents, according to Kumbhmela chief fire officer Pramod Sharma. At the Akhada Police Station in Sector 19 of the Mahakumbh Mela, two LPG cylinders exploded, which caused a large fire in the camps, according to in-charge Bhaskar Mishra.
