New Delhi: A US military plane has departed with illegal migrants to India, a US official told on Monday. A US official, on condition of anonymity, said that a US military aircraft C-17 has left to deport Indian immigrants. However, he also said that this aircraft will not reach India for the next 24 hours.

The Pentagon has also begun providing flights to deport more than 5,000 immigrants held by US authorities in El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California. So far, military aircraft have carried migrants to Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras.

President Donald Trump has taken the help of the military to fulfill his immigration agenda. Not only is the US deporting Indian immigrants, it has also sent additional troops to the US-Mexico border to expel illegal immigrants from Mexico.

The deportation to India will be the first since the return of US President Donald Trump to the White House. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have raised concerns around illegal immigration by Indians into the US during their respective conversations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Following Trump’s order, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has prepared a list of 1.5 million people to be deported from the country, which includes 18 thousand Indians. According to the data of Pew Research Center, about 7,25,000 illegal immigrants from India live in America.
