New Delhi: Parliamentary discussion on the Union Budget 2025-26, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will get under way today with the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to be taken up by both the Houses.

Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are expected to witness fiery debates as opposition parties have called for a discussion on the Maha Kumbh stampede tragedy during the Budget session. Though Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju has not provided any assurances, he said the Business Advisory Committee would decide on the agenda for Parliament.

Speaker Om Birla slams Opposition members for sloganeering during the Question Hour. Ge further Lok questioned the Opposition members saying, “Have the people of India elected you as MPs for sloganeering and disturbing House proceedings?”

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his displeasure, remarking that it was unprecedented for MPs to disrupt a session during an obituary of deceased members, calling such behaviour “highly disrespectful.”

On the agenda for the day, the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is expected to submit its final report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill to the Lok Sabha. Additionally, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is set to respond to the Motion of Thanks for the President’s address, delivered last Friday. A heated discussion on the Union Budget for 2025, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday, is also anticipated in both houses of Parliament on Monday.
