Khajuraho: Cases of chain snatching have gradually increased at Bageshwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh. Lately, a family from Shujalpur in Shajapur district fell prey to such an incident when they were visiting the shrine. The family immediately lodged a complaint at the police station and revealed that chain snatching had again become rampant at Bageshwar Dham.
For the past few months, there have been such incidents that have made visitors feel insecure and have developed more concern. In this particular case, the family lodged a complaint formally at Bamitha Police Station. The police, responding to the report, went ahead to arrest two women thought to be responsible for the incident.
In a sustained grilling, police found that both the women were from Rajasthan and that the two were part of a theft gang that majored in chain-snatching incidences. Both of them confessed to planning and perpetrating thefts of devotees visiting Bageshwar Dham temple. After that, the police arrested these suspects and started searching for other accomplices of this gang acting in the local territory.
Such cases have become quite frequent, and therefore, local authorities have taken measures to improve Bageshwar Dham’s security. More police patrol has been deployed to the islands and surveillance measures are being enhanced as well to secure tourists. But they are also encouraged to be wise and preventive measures are being advocated to discourage theft of property by visitors at the sight.
The arrest of these two women will go a long way in dealing with the issue of chain snatching that used to be rampant at Bageshwar Dham. The authorities concerned have vowed to bring these miscreants to book and ensure the safety of all the pilgrims to this holy place. More details of the probe are still awaited.
