Amid the deteriorating air quality in Mumbai, the Bombay High Court reportedly proposed phasing out diesel vehicles and wood/coal-fired kilns or ‘bhattis’ used by bakeries on Thursday.
AQI in Mumbai was recorded in satisfactory category in most of the places. However, a few monitoring stations revealed that the air quality was in poor condition in their areas. This includes Shivaji Nagar in Mumbai, which recorded AQI at 220 that falls under poor category. This category represents that a person inhaling this air may face breathing discomfort on prolonged exposure.
Wondering if there is a possible solution to the haze witnessed annually after Diwali, the Bombay high court, a bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice GS Kulkarni underlined the importance of CNG and electric vehicles to combat air pollution, The Bar and Bench reported.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in Mumbai will remain 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be 22 degrees. Mumbai on Friday morning experienced fog, with air quality index (AQI) in poor category at a few places. Meanwhile, a popular solo forecast has predicted that the temperature in Mumbai is likely to go below 30 degrees Celsius in some areas.
According to the IMD, the city will continue to witness the fog for a couple of day, which is expected to affect visibility in the city. Such weather condition is likely to prevail till January 11. After that, the city will see a clear sky till January 15. Contrary to the solo forecast, the IMD has predicted that the maximum temperature in the city may drop to 32 degrees. From the next week onwards, the maximum temperature is likely to rise till 34 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature will fluctuate between 19 to 22 degrees.
