The body of a seven-year-old boy, who was missing after a tourist ferry-Indian Navy Mumbai boat accident on 18 December, was found on the Mumbai coast on Saturday. The boy has been identified as Johan Pathan, a resident of Goa. Unfortunately, his mother also died in the accident.

The Indian Navy has started investigating one of the deadliest accidents to have occurred in the port area of the city. According to an official, a naval helicopter and boats of the Navy and Coast Guard have been deployed to search for the missing passengers as part of the SAR operation. The number of deceased from the December 18 disaster increased to 15 after the body of the seven-year-old boy was recovered. The body of a 43-year-old man was found on Thursday.

Mumbai Boat Accident; Details

Out of the 113 people on board both vessels, 98 people—including two injured—were saved, while 15 people perished. The official stated that two of the six people on board the Navy craft survived. The disaster happened when the passenger ferry “Neel Kamal” struck the speeding Navy vessel doing engine trials off the coast of Mumbai after losing control. With over 100 passengers, the boat was traveling from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island, a well-liked tourist destination with a number of historic caves.

A police official claimed that although the boat was authorized to carry 84 passengers and 6 crew members according to documents issued by the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), it was overloaded.
