Places Of Worship Act: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government in the Places of Worship Act. Hearing on petitions challenging the Places of Worship Act-1991 began in the Supreme Court from today (12 December). While hearing the case, the special bench of CJI Sanjiv Khanna, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar and Justice KV Vishwanathan said that we want to make one thing clear that no new petition can be filed till the next hearing.

The court asked all the parties to keep their arguments fully ready so that the matter can be settled quickly. The petition has been filed by 6 parties including CPI-M, Indian Muslim League, NCP Sharad Pawar, RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha.

The Supreme Court asked the Central Government to file a reply on the pending petitions. Apart from this, the CJI asked how many cases are there including Mathura and Gyanvapi? The CJI said, the Center should file a reply in 4 weeks. All parties should file a reply on it in the next 4 weeks.

CJI said that the matter is sub judicial. Until we hear and dispose of the case, no other case can be filed. We also have the Ram Janmabhoomi case. CJI said that whatever cases are filed, they will continue. Senior advocate Raju Ramachandran said that but whatever cases are going on. At present, there is a need to stop the proceedings. Survey orders are being given. CJI said how many such cases are pending? I know about two shots, one Mathura and SG said can a stranger, who is not a party to the case, come and say that all proceedings should be stopped. That is the question.

CJI said, “We want to make one thing clear that no new petition can be filed till the next hearing. The court asked all the parties to keep their arguments fully ready so that the matter can be disposed of quickly. The Places of Worship Act, 1991, protects the status of religious places based on August 15, 1947 and prohibits any change in it. However, the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute was excluded in this law. The Supreme Court has fixed the date for the next hearing of the case and directed to keep the status quo till then.

Earlier, this hearing was to be held on 5 December. On that day, the bench of CJI Sanjeev Khanna, Justice PV Sanjay Kumar and Justice Manmohan had risen before the hearing. The petitioners include BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, storyteller Devkinandan Thakur, BJP leader and advocate Ashwini Upadhyay, among others. In the petitions filed by the Hindu side, it has been argued that this law is against the Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh communities. Due to this law, they are not able to take control of their own places of worship and pilgrimage sites.
