Bijapur: The fresh attack on police base camp by Naxals in Bijapur district comes close on the heels of the attack on a police patrol team three days ago. The attack was done at the evening around 7.00 p.m., at the police camp in Jidpalli which comes under the Pamed police station. About the firing in the camp, Bijapur’s Superintendent of Police, Dr Jitendra Yadav, spoke.
In the cross firing between Naxalites and police forces three of the latter got injured slightly. The hurt officers were immediately treated by the first responders within the base camp. Preliminary reports indicate that the attack was masterminded under the instruction of Hidma, a top Naxal leader in the Central Committee.
As per the police headquarters, senior Naxal leaders have shifted their operational bases to other states as they are afraid of being killed by security forces which is intensifying its activities against the rebels. These leaders seem to be directing their frustrations towards attacking police camps in order to draw morale amongst lower cadres. These attacks are considered as attempts to proclaim one’s muscles and keep a grip politically in the Middle East.
The strategy of the Naxals appears to be to attack the police and create a sense of intimidation; besides, the capability to inflict strikes regardless of the recent reverses suffered. The development paints a picture of the continued struggle by security forces to conduct operations against insurgents in areas, which are isolated and rich in thickets.
Police officials have once again pledged that they will do all they can to protect their staffs as well as enhance the security situation in the area. More assets and contingents are being committed to mitigate the emerging threats and respond decisively in case of such an attack.
It is another event which points towards the situation in Bijapur particularly and overall strategy to tackle Naxalism in conjunction with restoring law and order situation.
