At this stage, Siddaramaiah may be asked to depose before the Lokayukta police again if required in the MUDA site allotment case in Karnataka, which is being investigated currently, said A S Ponnanna, legal adviser and Congress MLA.
The case relates to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) ‘s malpractice and failure in distributing 14 sites for the wife of the Chief Minister, Parvathi B.
On Wednesday, Siddaramaiah had to produce himself before the Lokayukta officials in Mysuru following a previous summons. During the session, he was interrogated by a Lokayukta SP T.J. Udesh team. Ponnanna said that Siddaramaiah has responded to all the questions he asked but pointed out that depending on what comes out in the probe, more questions may be asked.
”The decision to call him again is with the investigating officer,” said Ponnanna. If any clarification is needed based on new evidence, CM can be summoned again.
The legal adviser explained that the Chief Minister attended based on the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 41A, where investigators have a right to issue a notice. If need be, they can summon the individual again. He said, “It’s a standard investigative process, and the officer summoned the accused or witnesses multiple times during the investigation if required.”
Siddaramaiah is alleged in FIR lodged by Lokayukta police on September 27, which comes under the accused number one and involves the allotment of sites to the members of his family. His wife Parvathi, listed as accused number two, was grilled by the Lokayukta police on October 25.
Others mentioned in the case are Siddaramaiah’s brother-in law Mallikarjuna Swamy and Devaraju, who sold the land to the former and who had gifted the same to Parvathi. Swamy and Devaraju have already recorded their statements in Lokayukta police station in Mysuru.
