The BJP’s campaign for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly polls got underway Friday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking a potshot at the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which he likened to a car with no wheels or brakes.
Describing the internal struggle in the alliance of different factions who compete for leaders’ posts, Modi said that it is something similar to an automobile, which has no possibility of either proceeding or backing up.
“The Maha Aghadi’s vehicle has no wheels and no breaks either. There is always much arguing about who will get to sit on the driver’s side. From all four corners, various tones of different voices and horns ring, indicating confusion and distortion,” Modi said, to underline the lack of unity with the opposition forces.
In his speech, the Prime Minister outlined that only the BJP-led Mahayuti could ensure continuous and accelerated development of Maharashtra. He stated that the level of development realized in the state in the last two and half years will continue under the banner of Mahayuti. Modi also promised to ensure that there is no disruption of the developmental process, for which the party again pledged its support for the state’s growth.
In addition, the Prime Minister sought to bring into question the policies of previous Congress-led governments and claimed that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi had pursued policies that were anti-reservation for the OBC and tribal population. He said all these actions served to retard the progress of these vulnerable categories of people.
In order to reach out to the people of Maharashtra more, PM Modi said that a Mahayuti would ensure that 25,000 women were employed in the state police, thereby improving the security position of the ladies in the state as well as creating employment for the ladies in the state. Modi said this move, he strongly felt, would help empower women and enhance the force in law enforcement in Maharashtra.
