Bhopal: The Congress party is gearing up to go to court with regard to the membership issue of Madhya Pradesh MLA Nirmala Sapre.

The party plans to sue her over the substance of her membership status after the 90-day time frame concerning a petition filed by Leader of House Umang Singhar. Singhar had earlier sought to have Sapre’s membership terminated from the association.

This came to the limelight during the Lok Sabha election campaigning when Nirmala Sapre switched over to BJP along with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. Subsequently, at a turning point in this development, Umang Singhar demanded her membership be withdrawn and filed an application in the house to that effect. The Assembly Secretariat replied to Singhar by giving him a notice to Sapre to explain the matter to the Assembly Secretariat.

However, Sapre has not replied to the notice from the Assembly Speaker twice. After this silence, she was given another week to furnish her response by the Speaker of the House. On this date, 10th October, she presented a response in a sealed envelope.

Nevertheless, Nirmala Sapre participated in the BJP organizational meeting and stressed that she had not become a member of the BJP and did not sign any affidavit to the Assembly.

In her own account, she considered some media items as falsehoods regarding her affidavit, stating that she remained faithful to the voters. Sapre said “This is the population I work for, and let me remind people, they are my agenda.” He said he would expound on the matter in the Assembly shortly.

The decision of the Congress party to contemplate legal action shows that the political stakes are high on account of Sapre’s membership, and the consequent switch that she might make to the BJP also raises political questions for the party. It is anticipated that the situation will bring some tremendous changes in the political realm of Madhya Pradesh in the future.
